“They Don’t Make ‘Em Like Willie Anymore”: The Music Video

At first glance, this is a music video. But it's also a brief, multifaceted, musical documentary about Willie Nelson's music and how his songs have become a part of people's lives.

LYRICS

Well, they don’t make ‘em like Willie anymore. They just don’t make ‘em like Willie anymore. No one else has got his style, or so genuine a smile, no they don’t make ‘em like Willie anymore.

He played his own kind of music from the start. And then his family joined in to play their part. His nylon string guitar has carried him this far, and his singing could almost break your heart.

Oh, play me a plaintive country sound like “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.” Play me a song of love and pain, like “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.”

While driving down the road I sang along, when the radio would play a Willie song. And when life was hard to take, my heart about to break, his music helped me when all in life felt wrong.

He sings the truth I guarantee. His songs of life and love can set you free. Another one of him you’ll never find. And he can put you in a Texas state of mind.                       No they don’t make ‘em like Willie anymore.

WHO’S ROSE?

The answer is: they both are!

When the duo first used the name "Blacksmith Rose," people wondered which of the two women was "Rose." During live performances, they both sing and play instruments. Behind the scenes, they collaborate on music compositions, lyrics, and arrangements.

They both answer to the stage name of "Rose." When a distinction between the two is needed, they go by “Rose” and "Big Rose.” "Blacksmith Rose" is the singular personification of the two musicians.

THE MUSIC OF BLACKSMITH ROSE blends musical genres into a “Texcentric” style they call “denim jazz and honky-tonk blues.”

Founded in 2015 by life/professional partners “Rose” and “Big Rose,” BLACKSMITH ROSE is an American songwriting and performing duo who write, arrange, perform, produce, and record music.

Their sound is characterized by the distinct lead vocals of both women and their style of combining elements of early jazz with country music. Both are originally from Texas, where they have lived most of their lives.

They currently divide their time between Texas and their home in Wisconsin.
